Passport renewal, replacement, and issuance services

Passport Renewal

The Embassy of Senegal does not provide passport renewal services due to the absence of appropriate equipment for details recording and the issuance of passports. The Senegalese citizen residents of the area under the authority of the Senegal Embassy in New Delhi are required to travel back to Senegal for a new passport.

The Embassy will inform its citizens in case a mission is scheduled by the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for passport renewal in the jurisdiction of the Embassy.

Citizen Registration

Registration of Senegalese citizens residing in India

Each Senegalese national with a long stay in the Embassy's jurisdiction area must register at the Senegal Embassy within 03 months from the date of his arrival. This allows the Embassy to keep records of the number of Senegalese citizens under its care and issue a citizenship certificate if needed (done by the Ambassador). Upon registration, a consular card will be delivered to the registrant.

Long Stay Registration - Required Documents:

  • Passport or Senegalese national ID of the applicant
  • 02 ID photos
  • Address and coordinates in the jurisdiction of the Embassy
  • Address and coordinates in Senegal

Short Stay Registration - Required Documents:

  • Passport or Senegalese national ID of the applicant
  • Address and coordinates in the jurisdiction of the Embassy
  • Address and coordinates in Senegal
  • Profession and reason for the stay

Civil Status

Registration of births, marriages, and deaths

Birth Certificate

A birth certificate issued by a city hall in the area under the authority of the Embassy of Senegal in Delhi must be transcribed at the Embassy into a Senegalese Birth certificate.

Issuance Process Requires:

  • The birth certificate issued by the city hall in the place of birth
  • Passport or Senegalese national ID of the father or mother
  • The consular card of the father or mother

Note: When there is no foreign birth certificate, the Embassy can proceed to the declaration of the Senegalese children born in its jurisdiction within one month from the date of birth. Beyond that period of time plus fifteen days, the declarant must provide a medical certificate of labour or ascertain the birth by two witnesses.

Marriage Certificate

The Embassy of Senegal has the power to:

  • Transcribe a foreign marriage certificate issued in the Embassy's jurisdiction area
  • Tie in marriage two Senegalese citizen or a Senegalese national and a foreigner

Mandatory Documents for Transcription:

  • Marriage certificate issued by the city hall of the place of marriage
  • A copy of the birth certificate of the foreign spouse
  • The passport or national ID of the Senegalese partner
  • Consular card

Celebration of Marriage by the Embassy:

1. First Marriage - Required Documents:
  • The copies of the birth certificates of the spouses to be with the mention "With a view to marriage" written on the top
  • A celibacy certificate from the city halls that issued the birth certificates of the spouses
  • The copies of the national ID cards of the spouses to be
  • The copies of the national ID cards of the witnesses of the spouses to be
2. The Spouse to be is a Widower/Widow, or Divorced - Required Documents:
  • The copies of the birth certificates of the spouses to be with the mention "With a view to marriage" written on the top
  • A copy of the divorce certificate
  • A copy of the death certificate of the spouse along with a copy of the previous marriage certificate
  • The copies of the national ID cards of the spouses to be and their witnesses
3. The Husband to be has Previously Opted for Polygamy - Required Documents:
  • The copies of the birth certificates of the spouses to be with the mention "With a view to marriage" written on the top
  • A copy of the previous marriage certificate to verify the union option and the number of spouses (wives) allowed by that option
  • A copy of the death certificate of the spouse along with a copy of the previous marriage certificate
  • The copies of the national ID cards of the spouses to be and their witnesses

Safe Conduct

Document for travel in case of passport loss or expiration

In the case of a passport loss or expiration, the concerned Senegalese resident in the Embassy's jurisdiction area must request the issuance of a safe conduct. This document allows its holder to travel back to Senegal for passport renewal or reissuance.

Required Documents:

  • The birth certificate transcribed at the Embassy
  • A copy of the flight ticket or the reservation ticket
  • 02 ID photos
  • The consular card

Document Authentication

Authentication and legalization of documents

1. Signatures Legalisation

A signature to legalise is a signature done before a diplomatic or consular agent. The legalisation of a signature is the identity authentication of the signatory by affixing a stamp.

Requirements:

  • A document to legalise must be written in French or submitted with its translation from a local authorized translator
  • The national ID of the applicant is required

2. Conformity Certification

The certification of a true copy is the verification of the conformity of a copy or a photocopy to the original document submitted.

Assistance and protection for Senegalese citizens

The Embassy provides consular protection and assistance to Senegalese citizens in emergency situations, including but not limited to:

  • Medical emergencies
  • Legal assistance
  • Emergency travel documents
  • Assistance in case of arrest or detention
  • Support during natural disasters or crises
